Former Westboro Baptist Church member suggests Fred Phelps could be gay

A former Westboro Baptist Church member has speculated the head pastor Fred Phelps could be gay, and that is why he created the ‘God Hates Fags’ church.

Lauren Drain, who spent seven years as a baptized member of the gay hate group protesting at soldiers’ funerals, was kicked out just before she was 22.

As part of her apology to the people she offended, she shocked LGBT people when she gave her support to the NOH8 campaign aiming to promote marriage, gender and human equality across America.

Speaking to The Advocate, Drain said from what she heard there could have been a gay experience that made Phelps angry at LGBT community.

After Phelps graduated high school at 17, Drain describes how he was ready to go to the military and suddenly decided he wanted nothing to do with it.

Instead, he wanted to be a preacher and had a whole crusade against ‘sexual immorality’.

‘All I know is that he said he went to West Point, then all of a sudden he had a religious experience, and now he wanted to preach against sexual immorality, preach against the military, and ever since then things have kind of progressed,’ Drain said.

‘I don’t know what it is, but when people would ask me questions about the church, I never really got mad about anything. Someone might be like, “Oh, are you a lesbian?” And I’d be like, “No.” I wouldn’t be like, “Oh my god, I’m not!” I wouldn’t freak out and get defensive.
